HYPOPRESSIVES Tips for beginners

  • ️ Always warm up with some lateral breaths, this will really help release any tension. For extra release for a tight diaphragm use the fingers under the ribcage and gently massage.

  • ️ Never over exhale or force out any extra air, come to the natural end of the exhale.

  • ️ If you tend to over grip your abdomen after the exhale try softening the belly before doing the apnea - you can always place your hand there for feedback.

  • ️ Tie a theraband or a pair of tights loosely around the rib cage to provide feedback when doing the lateral breaths and apnea - especially when bringing in the arm positions.

  • ️ Keep the exhale nice and soft as if misting up a pane of glass or window.

  • ️ Struggling to feel the rib stretch? Try pinching the nose and taking a fake inhale, this action of the ribs expanding is what you want to replicate.

  • ️ Use visualisations such as bellows, umbrella or a fan opening to improve breathing and the rib stretch. Visualisations are a powerful way to help muscles move.
